Cops Looking For Elderly Canadian’s Killer
posted (February 25, 2020)
Last night we told you that an elderly Canadian national was found dead and foul play was suspected. Tonight, Police says 78-year-old Canadian James Slemp was murdered and his Guatemalan neighbour is the prime suspect - in, of all things, a dispute over tools.

Today Commissioner of Police Chester Williams told us that, that neighbour has abandoned his property and likely fled the country.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"From what I have been briefed is that the Canadian, 78 year old - he had lived in Hopkins, I guess a retired and he had some feud with a Guatemalan neighbor. He had gone missing I believe Friday into Saturday. We commenced the search for him Saturday morning, yield nothing. Sunday it yield nothing. With in that time we were also looking for the Guatemalan as we believe he may have been involved in the disappearance of the Canadian, but likewise the Guatemalan was nowhere to be found. He seemingly have abandoned his home and left the area. It was until yesterday morning around 7-8am that the body was found in the lagoon in the Hopkins area and it had injuries to the head and neck. So it is a case of murder and we are looking for the Guatemalan with whom he had the feud, from what we have made to understand over tools. It's an unfortunate situation and I know that it raises some concern to people in the area, but things like those where neighbors have feud with other neighbors and it is unknown to the police then there is little that we can do. We are hoping that this Guatemalan is still in country and we'd be able to find him and see what can be done to bring him to justice."

Slemp's body was found yesterday floating in a nearby lagoon with apparent chops wounds.
