Confessed Gang Members Wanted For Committal
posted (February 25, 2020)
This afternoon, the police department also released 3 wanted posters for young men from Belize City who have been either been accused or convicted of being members of a criminal gang in the Magistrate's Court.

The wanted men have been identified as 22-year-old Ulide Allen, a resident of Antelope Street, 26 year-old Tevin James Cacho a resident of Jones Street, and 20-year-old Kelvin Gongora, a resident of Sibun Street.

But they aren't wanted for any active criminal investigation; they are wanted for being a gang member.

The wanted posters are unusual, and so, when we had the opportunity this evening, we asked the Police Commissioner to discuss why it is a priority for the department to find these men at this time:

Chester Williams- Commissioner of Police
"We did put out four wanted persons posters today. Three of them were wanted for gang membership and one is wanted for the murder of Shane Budram. The reason why we put out these wanted posters is because we have been trying to locate these individuals and we have been unable to find them. We are hoping that with the assistance of the public we will be able to find them and we have commitment warrants for them to go straight to prison. They have been convicted for being the member of a criminal gang."

Jules Vasquez- Reporter
"Convicted in absentia?"

Chester Williams
"No, they were convicted in their presence and they were given time to pay. That time to pay has now elapsed and so we have obtained the commitment warrant and we are prepared to take them to prison. It is a part of our anti-gang campaign in terms of to see what we can do to keep the city and it's residents safe from gang members."

Jules Vasquez
"So, because, I know a lot of times people are ordered to pay fines, they don't pay but system just never follows up. In this case you all have been keeping a close eye on it."

Chester Williams
"Of course, we are keeping close tabs to see when the expiration of the time given by the court to pay the fine comes. Then we go to the court, obtain the warrant, pick up those persons and we ferry them to prison. Seemingly these individuals know that their time to pay is up and they are now doing the best they can to elude law enforcement. But we will see what can be done with the assistance of the public."

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of any of these 3 men is asked to urgently contact the nearest police station.
