Murder Mistrial in West
posted (February 25, 2020)
In 2017, Santa Elena resident Errol Smith was charged with manslaughter for allegedly beating 38-year-old Marlon Peters, his friend, and co-worker, to death. Well, his trial concluded yesterday, and the jury hearing his case couldn't come to a unanimous decision. That has caused a mistrial to be declared in his case.

The incident happened on July 14th, 2017 in Santa Elena Town. Both men left their workplace at the Ministry of Works in Cayo. They were socializing on Maxi Street when reportedly they got into a disagreement. Things escalated to a brawl, and Smith allegedly beat Peters to death.

Well, Smith stood trial in the Belmopan Supreme Court this month for the crime of manslaughter, and after the jury of 9 returned from their deliberation yesterday evening, they couldn't only reach a majority decision. 5 jurors thought he was guilty, while 4 others found him not guilty.

As a result, Justice Cumberbatch ordered a mistrial and discharged both him and the jurors who listened to the case.
