Glenford Grant Sentenced For Killing Father
posted (February 26, 2020)
Glenford Grant, a 37 year old schizophrenic who pleaded guilty to the murder of his father, 80 year old Clifton Grant, 80, was sentenced to 15 years today by Justice Colin Williams.

Because he pleaded guilty, Justice Williams subtracted 5 years, a third of his sentence, which put the remainder at 10 years. Justice Williams added 1 year on the remaining sentence of 10 years because of the age of Grant's father which was a major aggravating factor. That set the time at 11 years. Also, 9 years and 10 months, the time Grant had spent on remand, was subtracted from 11 years and that put the figure at 1 year and 2 months, which is the time Grant has remaining to serve.

Before he decided on the sentence, Justice Williams took into consideration the mitigating factors as well as the aggravating factors. Apart from the age of the deceased, the aggravating factors were that the act was unprovoked and that the deceased asked Grant to stop beating him and he did not.

The mitigating factors were that Grant expressed remorse for what he did and he did not commit any infraction during the time he was in prison. Also, members of his family asked for leniency on his behalf. The incident occurred on May 14, 2010. Grant was represented by attorney Audrey Matura while the Crown was represented by Senior Crown Counsel Shanice Lovell.
