Covid-19 In Mexico, What Next For Belize?
posted (February 28, 2020)
The first cases of coronavirus, in our neighboring country of Mexico, have been confirmed. Both cases were imported and have a history of travel to Italy. Mexican officials have confirmed that both individuals are well and seem to have mild cases of the disease.

A 35-year-old man is isolated, along with family members, in a hospital while a 41-year-old man is in isolation at a hotel, as is a colleague he traveled with, who hasn't presented any symptoms.

For its part Belize's Ministry of Health today issued a press release that states that they are closely monitoring developments concerning the first confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mexico and remain in daily communication with counterparts from both CARICOM and COMISCA.

They also reiterated that to date, Belize remains free of any cases of COVID-19 and continue to advise the public to take preventative measures to reduce the risk of transmission: these include the washing of hands regularly with soap and running water, covering of the mouth when coughing or sneezing, and avoiding close contact with persons who have flu-like symptoms.
