Immigration Probe’s First Draft
posted (February 28, 2020)
And while Senator Smith is calling out Senator Salazar on making excuses, she can't say that any more - because, we learned today, that the first draft of the report is finally in. That's right. We learned it from Business Senator Mark Lizarraga who was discussing another issue that came up in the NUTCB meeting with the Prime Minister, and that was the report that no PUP had been named to replace Eamon Courtenay who is no longer in the Senate. He says it's just gamesmanship:

Hon. Mark Lizarraga - Business Senator
"There was a comment recently made that the Opposition does not have representation on the committee, and it is unfortunate. Again, it's more games that are being played because the Opposition had an alternate on that committee who attended whenever Senator Courtenay was not present. As well, I was copied on a letter when it was sent to the Chairman of the Committee. I am not sure if you were, copied as well, Elena. But, there was a letter that was sent to Senator Aldo Salazar, stating quite clearly, and quoting the relevant sections of the Constitution of Belize, saying that Senator Michel Chebat was to be the Opposition's Representative on the Senate Select Committee. So, it's unfortunate that these games are played. I want to say as well that interestingly enough, yesterday, we received the first draft of the report from Senator Aldo Salazar. I was copied on it, as were you, and it's interesting to note that the Opposition was not copied on that email."

Senator Smith says that she hopes they have enough time to review the draft, since they have been waiting for it for over a year.
