There was a double murder in San Ignacio Town on Saturday night that has shaken the communities of the twin towns. 

33-year-old Marva Rivera, and her co-worker, 33-year-old Shawn Vasquez, were leaving their job  site. They were right in front of the supermarket when a gunman snuck up on them and opened fire. Vasquez and Marva Rivera were fatally injured, while her husband Richard Rivera was grazed by one of the bullets in the barrage. 

Our news team was in San Ignacio Town today to get answers on this double tragedy today. Everyone who spoke with us had no clue as to why these two co-workers were gunned down so ruthlessly.

It should have been an ordinary end of the workday for the 2 co-workers: 33-year-old Shawn Kevin Vasquez, and 33-year-old Marva Rivera. But, while they were leaving work, they were both gunned down and killed by a shooter for still-unknown reasons.

Video footage from the surveillance cameras installed at the Tia Kong Supermarket does provide some insight as to what happened just after 9:00 on Saturday night.

Although the video is difficult to make out at a glance, you can see Vasquez, the person in the middle of your screen pushing a bicycle; and Rivera, the lady to the right of the screen, walking off the Supermarket’s property.

About 12 seconds later, the video shows Rivera heading to the passenger side of the white pickup truck. Her husband, Richard Rivera, is the driver.

A few feet behind them, Vasquez is seen pushing his bicycle, and as soon as Marva gets into the pickup truck,

Vasquez suddenly falls to the sidewalk with his bicycle. We’re told that's the moment when he was shot in chest and abdomen. There is a shadowy figure, and a flash of light, most likely from the gun.

Moments later, that same unknown person then points the weapon at the passenger side of the pickup, and several more flashes of light are seen. The Rivera couple speeds away in their vehicle, heads to the San Ignacio Community hospital because both of them were injured. The gunman is seen firing more shots at the fleeing pickup, before escaping on foot.

Shawn Vasquez died on the scene.

About 2 hours later, Marva Rivera succumbed while undergoing treatment for gunshot injuries to the chest, the right shoulder, the right side of her jaw, and the center of her throat. Her husband was fortunate, and he was only grazed by one of the bullets.

"Upon them exiting the building, and was moving toward the vehicle, they were approached by a dark-skinned male person who fired upon the security [guard] injuring him. And in the process, whilst Miss Marva was getting the vehicle, she was also fired upon. Police are presently conducting an investigation into this matter. We have one person detained. We have not been able to establish a clear motive, 1 because the deceased security guard was armed with a firearm, and that was found on him after the incident."

The cops don’t think that the shooter was trying to rob the supermarket, because it was already locked up.

The two grieving families also have no idea why any of the 3 victims were targeted so ruthlessly. Family members say that both Kevin Vasquez and Marva Rivera had likeable personalities

"I can’t tell you why they did that. I don’t know. I know that Marva was a good person. She was a loving person."

"To be honest, Marva never used to get [into problem] with anybody. When she used to see problems about to happen, she used to be like, Let’s go. Let’s go. Because she doesn’t like that kind of thing."

"You know how many people sent me the condolence, they say Ms. Itch, sorry, the principal from Sacred Heart school, Ms. Catherine when she call me and tell me Ms. Itch I'm sorry what happened to Marva and she start to cry because Marva was an active girl. When you go to school and because she use to work at the school, she does be a nice girl, Marva never to say Marva will curse you and when she go out she say, I enjoy myself. Once she have money, she no care, she help her sisters them. She would say ma, you no worry, if I have you have."

"My son, when he had come down here he would say good morning Mrs. Caine, how are you right. So I tell him I'm okay and he say that you know that I am your handsome son right, sometimes he told me that right, I'm the handsome son that you have. Sometimes I look at him and sometimes he come in high and I tell him Shawn when are you going to stop drink like that I told him, he said soon mom, soon. He always have we laughing, he always run joke and call the children names and so right. He likes like that, the kind of person, always happy."

"I pray to God that one day they will find him and I pray to God that his conscience eat him out because he took away my loved one, he took piece of me because I love all my children. I’m the mother and I’m the father."

We are told a BDF soldier was a suspect in this crime.  

Marva Rivera was the mother of 1 child. Shawn Vasquez was the stepfather of 5 children. His mother told us that earlier in his life, he dabbled in the marijuana trade and ended up in jail. After a period of extreme depression, he met his wife, and had a complete change in his lifestyle, and became a responsible stepfather.
