Borland Says He Can Investigate His Own Colleagues
posted (March 3, 2020)
But is Admiral Borland independent enough to lay blame where it should be laid? After all, he works in the same Curl Thompson building with many of the Ministry and military brass who may have given the order, or consented to it being given.

We asked him yesterday about his independence:..

Reporter
"Are you independent enough to lead this investigation when we know there are other people you have worked with in the BDF or in other forces who may be compromised by certain findings? Are you sufficiently independent to lead this investigation?"

Admiral John Borland- Chief of Defense Staff
"I'm a professional. I have an extensive background as a military man, as a leader, as a commander. My civilian leadership looks to me in times like these and this is where I prove myself. So while I am a responsible to coordinate all these investigations, I am not conducting the interviews, I am directing, I am leading, I am supporting, I share my experience, I share my knowledge."

Borland recently retired from the Coast Guard and is Belize's first chief of Defence Staff - a post which was, ostensibly, created for him.

Later on in the news he'll talk about the active undermine of BDF Commander Generel Steven Ortega by senior officers in the BDF.
