Major Unions Come Out Against GOB
posted (March 3, 2020)
And while the Port of Belize is in trouble with the Christian Workers Union, GOB is in trouble with ALL unions it seems. Today, a flood of release came out from the Energy Workers Union, the Communication Workers Union, the Belize Workers Union, and the Christian workers union, all in solidarity with the NTUCB.

The NTUCB put out a position yesterday saying, quote, "in consideration of the recent episodes of poor governance, the NTUCB has reached the conclusion that as a country we can no longer afford inaction by our designated leaders. Inaction will come at a cost which we will not be able to bear. We have also come to the realization that a paradigm shift is very urgent for better transparency and accountability when governing the country's affairs."

So, the NTUCB says it is placing the following demands before the sitting of the House of Representatives to be held on Thursday. First, they demand "the immediate allocation of a substantial and adequate budget for the UNCAC Steering Committee (Project Board), which is to be reactivated immediately." End quote.

Second, "the immediate allocation of a substantial and adequate budget for the Integrity Commission within this budget; for the Commission to house a functional Secretariat an Inspector and is properly equipped with need resources." End quote.

Third, the replacement of Hon. John Saldivar from the Public Accounts Committee; as we are of the logical view that if he is unfit to lead the UDP he is likewise and most unquestionably unfit to sit on the Public Accounts Committee". End quote.

Also that the Public Accounts Committee starts to conduct their meetings no later than Friday, March 13th, 2020.

And, that the Government lay on the table the Auditor General's Annual Report for 2013-14 & 2014-15 at the next House of Representatives sitting.

As we told you the major unions for BEL and BTL as well us the CWU, and the Belize Workers Union and the National Student Union all issued solidarity releases to back up the NTUCB.
