And 15 minutes later, the evening’s final shooting this one claimed the life of 46-year-old Keith Courtenay. Courtenay was by all accounts a hardworking family man and he proved it in his last moments shielding his 6-year-old grandson from the bullets that ultimately took his life. Superintendent Cowo says that police were called directly from Barrera’s murder scene to what would become Courtenay’s deathbed: 

And IDB and the Ministry of Human Development have a proposed solution to violence on the southside. It's a project entitled Community action for public Safety II. The intention is to increase the capacity of the Ministry to coordinate and deliver violence prevention in Belize City. 

To that end, the construction of a wraparound service center has been proposed for the former Batty Bus Terminal. The intention is to bring together various ministry departments. 

Southside residents are invited to a community consultation to be held at 5:50 pm on Thursday, March 12th at the Gateway Youth Center. The purpose of the consultation is to provide residents with information on the project, the services to be offered, and the environmental and social impacts the project may have.
