Municipal Governments Threaten to Revoke Trade Licenses for Price Gougers
posted (March 13, 2020)

The Belize Mayors' Association is also expressing concern at the price gouging - but they are doing something about it - they're making trade license threats!

Mayors in Punta Gorda and Orange Walk are threatening - via Facebook - to rescind trade licenses of those stores who are price gouging on essential sanitary products.

A press release, sent by the Association puts it more diplomatically, quote, "All 9 Mayors of Belize and the Councils which they lead, hereby appeal to local businesses to refrain from using a crisis situation as an opportunity to turn extreme profits on products, which at this time are critical to preventing local outbreaks and preserving the general good health of the Belizean population. As the authorities responsible for Trade Licensing in each municipality, we expect that honest business practice and responsibility to the communities, which support these establishments year-round, will be at the fore of pricing decisions in the matter of public health and welfare." End quote.
