Alleged Facebook Fraudster Charged
posted (March 13, 2020)

20-year-old Tayvon Castillo, a resident of Raccoon Street in Belize City, is out on bail tonight after being taken to court for obtaining property by deception - and it all happened on Facebook.

24-year-old Dagoberto Henriquez reported to the police that he contacted Castillo on Facebook. He says Castillo went by the name, Assad P. Lloyd, and he was supposedly a car dealer with vehicles to rent or sell. Henriquez said that Castillo said that he had a 2011 Chevy Equinox for sale at a total cost of $18,000. Castillo reportedly told him that all he needed to do was to make a downpayment of $2,000, and additional monthly payments of $500 until Henriquez completely paid for the vehicle.

Henriquez said that he even met Castillo, who he knew as Assad P. Lloyd, and he inspected the vehicle before agreeing to the sale. He claims that Castillo said that his attorney would prepare the sale agreement. Henriquez paid Castillo that the initial sum of $2,000. Castillo reportedly contacted him several days later, claiming that he would take the vehicle to a mechanic for repairs. He later promised to replace it with another one in the meantime.

The victim said that he later found out that Castillo deceived him, and that the vehicle he was attempting to purchase didn’t actually belong to Castillo. According to Henriquez, the vehicle is owned by a female police officer, who Castillo claimed was a rental customer of his.

The victim started to get concerned about Castillo’s explanations, and he said that he later tried to get his money back, but he couldn’t find Castillo. He was later able to track Castillo down with the help of the police.

Castillo was arrested and charged with obtaining property by deception, and he was arraigned today before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson. He pleaded not guilty and was released on bail of $3,000. His case has been adjourned until May 13th.

Of important note is that Castillo is currently out on bail for 3 counts of obtaining property by deception.
