A Killing At Chactemal

There was one more murder this weekend, and this one happened near the Belize/Mexico border.

At around 3:00 on Sunday afternoon, Corozal Police arrived in an area just off the road that leads to the Chactemal Bridge, which is near to the Customs cargo area at the Santa Elena Border. That’s where the body of an unidentified man had been discovered. 

He was found lying in a pool of blood, and had been viciously stabbed, reportedly over two dozen times to the neck, the head, and the back. There was no identification found on him, but the cops have since been able to identify him.

A press conference today, the Deputy Head of the National Criminal Investigation Branch shared a few more details about this stabbing victim:

"On Sunday the 15th day of March 2020 around 3 pm, Corozal police visited an area near the New Bridge, near the Belize Mexico border where they saw the lifeless body of a dark skin male person, motionless with stabbed wounds. The body was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. There after, an investigation was conducted and the person was identified as Ryan Lucas, 31 years, Belizean of Hattieville Village. We are seeking the public's assistance for information as there is limited information to go on at this time."

"Sir, do you know what he was doing? Was he visiting, going across the border? You said he lives in Hattieville."

"Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

"We are not sure what he was doing in that area."

"Sir, is his family sharing any kind of information about the last known whereabouts, his location?"

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Yes, investigators are doing interviews to gather all that information to try and determine if he was along with anyone and what was his purpose in that area."

"Has Lucas ever come up on your radar in terms of any questioneable activities, illegaly activities?"

"No, not at this time."

"Sir, does there seem to be any robbery elemento to that incident?"

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Not that we know of, no."

Reporter
"So, it seems to be something more personal?"

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

"That is what it appears to be."

Reporter
"Sir, did he have any of his personal belongings, anything at all with him?"

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"No he did not."

Reporter
"No identification either?"

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Neither."

Reporter
"Sir, that area where he was found, are you able to describe it for us, is it an isolated area?"

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Yes, it is an isolated area and it is used by persons some times to conduct illegal activities."

The cops are seeking the help of the public in trying to solve this murder. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the nearest police station.
