Area Rep Speaks Out Against Child Murder in His Constituency
posted (March 17, 2020)

And Caribbean Shores area representative Kareem Musa is also angry, very angry, about the death of Dominique Rhamdas and his family.  They were his constituents and this afternoon he called an impromptu press conference to declare that his team is taking a stand against gun violence in the city.

Hon. Kareem Musa - Area Rep, Caribbean Shores
"It's a real tragedy that as rocked our community to the core. We are a peaceful residential community and I must say that it has gotten to a point where the law abiding citizens, the residence of Caribbean Shores, we are ready to take a stand, to say that enough is enough. The criminals in our country are the minority and for too long, for the last couple of years, we have been made prisoners inside our own homes, not these criminals, they are not the prisoners, we are. We have been confined to our homes but even in our prison cells, we are not safe. As you know the gunman came up to Shakira's window, open the window and shot inside the home and fatally wounding the child, as you now know Dominique Rhamdas has passed away. And so it's been a very emotional 24 hours for my team, we have visited with the family members with the mother, who she suffered a stroke recently, Ms. Jenny and so we came together and decided that we need to take a stand and we need to be the voice for the voiceless and a voice for those who are victims of gun violence in our city man. It's gotten too out of hand, so it really speaks to the level of disregard that the criminals now have in going after an executing their target, they don't even care who they're killing in the process and so while they may have a beef with somebody in particular, they are just going to spray up the whole household and disregard the occupants of that household. Shakira and so many people have asked me to describe Shakira in the last 24 hours and it always takes me back to being one of the best mothers that I know. Every single thing that Shakira thinks or does, every move she makes, it's all about her two children. So that is the best way I can describe her, she was quite, she was loving, she was caring, she was jovial, she was a friend of all of us in here. When it's campaign time she would our campaign as well and so we have a lot of love for Shakira, she will be sadly missed by all of us here and the wider community, she was well known in the 6th street area of King's Park and so the entire community is grieving over the loss of Shakira. Tomorrow, the team and I will be having a BBQ sale out here because, as I just mentioned Ms. Jenny suffered a stroke and the last thing she needs right now, is to worry about the financial burden of burying two loved ones, her daughter and her grandson, she's in a really bad state right now and so that is why we're coming together and we're having a BBQ sale tomorrow right here at the office at Baymen Avenue, 10 dollars a plate and so I want to encourage everybody, if it's just a small donation, to help alleviate the expenses of the funeral cost, we invite you to come out here tomorrow between the hours or 11 and 2 in the afternoon, we'll be having a BBQ sale."

Musa's office will hold that fundraiser at his Baymen Avenue office tomorrow from 11:00 am -2:00 pm. All proceeds will go toward defraying burial expenses for Shakira White, Phillip Leslie, and Dominique Rhamdas.
