So, to recap, in the 48 hours from Monday at 4:30 to this evening - 7 persons have been murdered.  They are Ryan Lucas, who was stabbed over two dozen times at the Corozal border, and then, later that night in Belize City, the couple, Phillip Leslie and Shakira White - who her aunt says was shot 17 times as she shielded her children. One of those children, her son Dominque Rhamdas died last night, 20 hours after he was shot.  And then Collet Morter was murdered last night, and early this morning, 5 year old Kia Herbert was killed as she slept on the floor, and now, victim number 7, Derrick King was killed just a few hours ago. 

Apart from these murders, 8 persons have been shot in that period - all in Belize city.

It is dire, and it is deadly, and reports say that the Ministry of National Security will put BDF on the streets as soon as possible, a strategy that has been around since the 90’s with ever increasing murder rates.  

Today, the PUP issued a release saying quote, “The… (PUP) calls on the Government to act decisively to implement policies and strategies to deal with the violent crime which has surged out of control. We urge the policymakers in Cabinet, who seem as confused, clueless and incompetent as ever, to give ‘crime and lawlessness’ the highest priority at this time.â€￾ End quote.
