Saldivar and Faber, These Guys Again
posted (March 17, 2020)

And while the Prime Minister would have to figure out where and how to find another isolation ward, those weighty national priorities aren’t the only thing on his mind.

The party which he has led for 22 years is facing a deepening crisis of succession.  7News has confirmed that both Patrick Faber and John Saldivar have both formally submitted their names to run as leader in the emergency national convention which is scheduled for April fifth.  Now, if you’re scratching your head, you’re right to do so: those are the same two guys who ran in the last abortive convention in January!  Faber was soundly defeated, while Saldivar was forced to resign 60 hours after he was sworn in because it was revealed that he lied about taking money from Lev Dermen.   Dermen, we should note, was yesterday convicted on 10 felony counts in Utah and is facing a significant prison sentence.

But, such is the state of the UDP - and in a self-important facebook post last night Saldivar said “My resignation was to afford the Party the chance to endorse a consensus Leader. I therefore confirm that I support the endorsement of Hon. Dr. Omar Figueroa as our new Leader and call on Hon. Patrick Faber to do the same. I do however now indicate that if Hon. Faber enters his name again for the post of Leader, then I will also enter my name for the post.â€￾  End quote.

Well, reports tell us Faber submitted his name yesterday and Saldivar did so today.  Omar Figueroa has not submitted his name - but if he is interested in the job, he has until March 26th to decide.
