And we imagine even for the most devout UDP’s, that’s a quite sad turn of events, while for the general public, it's probably comedy - having two conventions, months apart, to pick between the same two guys.  

But, can the UDP even have the convention?  With mass gatherings of more than 100 currently banned, and the UDP having 570 delegates, it might not even be legal.  The Leader of the Opposition took a few potshots at the UDP’s woeful state of affairs yesterday:

"Would that include the UDP convention that is scheduled for April 6th?"

Hon. John Briceno- PUP Leader
"Well, I think they have problems getting to a hundred, right now, so."

"I agree."

[all laughs]

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow- Prime Minister
"You know me, I acknowledge a shot when I see you. But we have to think, I can't speak for myself. Sorry, I can't speak only for myself. But we have to give active consideration to whether that convention will not have to be postponed. In any event, we weren't thinking, well if the leader said they had 15,000 at their march, we had 10,000 at just a convention. We weren't thinking of that 10,000. If we had that convention it would just be for the deligates to go and vote but that's 570. But let me get back to you on that one."
