COVID 19 Concerns Stalls Jury Selection in Cops Case
posted (March 17, 2020)

Earlier we told you that the judiciary was planning what to do in view of the COVID-19 concerns for public gatherings.

And that’s why today Police constables 24-year-old Jahsimir Cob, 24-year-old Reydel Teck, and 25-year-old Romelio Logan, got a break when they were set to go on trial for a charge of manslaughter today but that all changed when it was learned that the selection of the trial’s jury pool couldn't go ahead.

Justice Marilyn Williams read a letter which stated that members of the Bar and the public are advised that all trials by jury are suspended until further notice pending the abating of the threat of COVID 19.

The Police constables were facing a charge of manslaughter for the death of Edwin Ixtapac, a Guatemalan national, who was allegedly beaten and fatally injured between March 4 and March 8, 2016 in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye.

The trial has been adjourned until April 20.
