Man Dies Three weeks After Accident
posted (March 23, 2020)

At the beginning of the month, we told about a traffic accident that happened in front of the FFB headquarters in Belmopan.

On March 1st, at around 5:30 p.m., a Toyota Tacoma pickup flipped and was found with its 4 wheels in the air. The driver had 3 passengers at the time of the accident: 1 in the cab and 2 in the pan of the pickup.

2 of the passengers suffered minor injuries, but the third, 66-year-old Rupert Herrera Garcia, ended up in an unconscious state at the KHMH.

Well, after remaining hospitalized for 20 days, the Belmopan resident passed away on Saturday evening from the injuries he suffered in that accident. Police told us today that they are still trying to locate the driver of the vehicle who fled the scene after he flipped the pickup:

Supt. Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
"[In] reference to the traffic accident that occurred on the 1st of March in front of the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, where Mr. Ruperto Herrera Garcia, 66 years old, was inside of the vehicle when the vehicle overturned, and he received injuries to the body, he was transported to the hospital, and he was admitted for the past 3 weeks. Unfortunately, on Saturday, he passed away from the injuries he received during that accident. So far, I was made to understand that the driver fled from the scene, and has not been captured up to this moment."

Reporter
"Sir, What is the challenge of trying to locate this individual?"

Supt. Alejandro Cowo
"I know that the police have already obtained a name and an address. They have checked several times at the address, but he has not been located."
