posted (April 2, 2020)

Good evening and welcome to 7News - we are in day one of only the second National State Of Emergency in the country’s history - and we’ll tell you all about that tonight.

But, we start with an update on COVID 19.  There are still only 3 positive tests in Belize.  This graphic from the Ministry of Health shows that up to 4:00 pm yesterday, there were 103 tests performed, and 13 people are under investigation.

There were 9 persons screened in the Corozal District - none under investigation, 5 in the Orange Walk District, none under investigation, 53 screened in the Belize district, which is where the 3 positive cases came from, while 10 persons are under investigation; the Cayo district had 24 screened, with 3 currently under investigation, Stann Creek had 8 screened while none are under investigation; Toledo had 4 screened and, again, none are under investigation.

Late last night Health Minister Pablo Marin posted an update, saying, quote “our Central Medical Laboratory performed 12 tests today and all came out negative to COVID-19, a total of 115 tests have been done and we remain with 3 COVID-19 positive cases.â€￾ End quote.

Interestingly, the epidemiological curve in Central America shows Belize at the very bottom, with 3 confirmed cases, Nicaragua above with 5 cases, then El Salvador with 32, Guatemala with 38, Honduras with 172, Costa Rica with 347, and Panama with 1,1181.  Notably, in 10 days, Panama went from 200 to 1,000 confirmed cases.
