The Curfew Count On Arrests Increasing

As you've heard in our first segment, there are now 7 patients who have tested positive for COVID-19. As a result of this the Prime Minister this evening announced a 14-day lockdown for the Cayo District. A press release a few minutes ago says these measures will go into effect at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.

The PM also hinted at enhanced measures to keep people at home during the nation-wide curfew; hundreds have been arrested since it went into effect on Thursday.

On Friday, 105 people were arrested and charged. 53 were charged for being unable to provide reasons for movement outside of the curfew. 43 were charged with breaching the curfew. 1 person was charged with keeping an establishment open during curfew hours. 4 were charged with refusing to maintain social distancing. 1 was charged with failing to comply with restriction of movement outside of the curfew, and 3 were charged with allowing a child to suffer in a public place.

On Sunday, another 119 people were arrested and charged under the State of Emergency regulations. 62 were charged with being unable to provide reasons for movement outside of the curfew period. 50 were charged with breaking the curfew, and 7 were charged with failing to practice social distancing.

And this morning, police arrested and charged another 100 people for offenses under the State of Emergency. 65 were charged with being unable to provide reasons for movement outside of the curfew period. 30 were charged with breaching the curfew. 4 were charged with failing to practice social distancing, and 1 person was charged with keeping a business place open that was required to be closed.
