Manzanero Refutes Claim of Contact By Recinos
posted (April 7, 2020)
And turning from rumour to allegation, Dr. Manzanero gave a brief, but pointed reply to the allegation Maria Estella Recinos. She's Hubert Pipersburgh's grieving wife, and she claimed that on March 27th, she called Dr. Manzanero, who she knows personally and asked him to take a Covid19 test on her husband. She claims, quote, "Dr. Manzanero told me my husband doesn't qualify to take the test. I was surprised as symptoms point out that it wasn't any simple infection."

Today, Manzanero said it's untrue:

Dr. Marvin Manzanero - Director of Health Services
"I'm getting here personal notes in terms of the story that was published in referenced to Patient #4. I can appreciate one side of the story being told. I am not in a position to be engaging, I can respect the grieving process of the family. I can tell you I emphasized with that, but once there is the due process I can say what was said, because there is an allegation in there in terms of me being called and that's not true. That's all I am going to say in reference to that. There was no conversation on March 27th."

A release from the government yesterday said, quote,
"The Government assures the Pipersburgh and Recinos family and the public that all complaints and criticisms regarding COVID-19 in Belize are taken very seriously. Especially concerning is the experience Mr. Pipersburgh's family recounts.

Ms. Recinos' report and any information that can assist in ensuring that Belize's response demonstrates respect and care for citizens are welcome and appreciated. Consequently, an investigation of the public health response and medical care given to Mr. Pipersburgh as recounted by Ms. Recinos has already begun." END QUOTE.
