And it seems that Williams can't catch a break because the Special
Envoy for Women and Children, Kim Barrow in a press release this
evening lumped both incidents together calling them incidences of
police brutality against women and elderly persons. Mrs. Kim Simplis
Barrow called for the elimination of all acts of violence at this
trying time, claiming that they only serve to quote: "inflict bouts of
fear and mistrust."
Today, Commissioner Williams said that while he is eager to investigate
the San Martin abuse, the victims are still recovering and have yet to
provide their statements.
Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"Professional standards branch had gone to record statements from the
victims the old man had asked that they return next week to get his
statement and the young man who was hospitalized I think he had
requested for them to go back either today or tomorrow so we have still
not recorded their statement as yet and we respect how they feel in the
sense that the elder guy he said that he wanted his attorney to be
present when his statement is recorded and so we respect that so as
soon as he is ready with his attorney he will let us know and then the
officers from professional standards branch will go and record his
statement and the same thing with the other person when he is ready
then we will go and record their statements. But for the time being,
we're not able to proceed any further because we need the statements
from them."
