The Passing Of The Wright Bishop
posted (April 15, 2020)
Doric McGowan Wright Bishop Emeritus of Belize City, Belize passed away at 5:25 am this morning. The 74 year old Wright had a long history of medical complications, including vision problems.

Wright was ordained as Auxiliary to Bishop Osmond P. Martin on April 4, 2002.

He was known for his compassion, his offhanded humour, and was a staunch defender of his faith, and also outspokenly opposed some aspects of the government's 2013 promotion of same-sex-orientation rights.

Today Cherisse Halsall spoke to Wright's childhood friend and brother in the church Father Noel Leslie about the jovial and compassionate Bishop surely to be remembered fondly by parishioners, family, and friends.

And the Governor-General of Belize, His Excellency Sir Colville Young expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Bishop Wright. Sir Colville praised the Bishop as an outstanding religious leader and great musician, whose quote: "friendship and encouragement of Belizean styles and idioms in music was an inspiration while he sang in the Belize Choral Society for years."
