PSU, No Agreement On Wage Freeze
posted (April 17, 2020)
But, while the regs may change, the 8:00 pm curfew has been pretty steady for two weeks now. Still though, night drives and tailgating are far from the only things we've had to give up in COVID-time Belize. Tens of thousands have lost their livelihoods and those lucky enough to still have jobs are facing the possibility of pay cuts.

And while public officers are facing the reality that they may have to give up their increment, an internal memo from the PSU says no agreement has been reached.

Also on the chopping block: reduction in annual leave, 25% of Housing and Entertainment Allowances for Heads of departments, Senior Management, and CEO's, and reductions in gratuities.

An internal memo from the PSU says that an alternative in the form of COVID-19 cost-saving measures, was put forward by the Unions to the Ministry of Finance, however, this was denied outright by Financial Secretary Joseph Waight.

Now the Union is inviting members and other public officers to voice their concerns/suggestions via email.

Government's annual wage bill is more than half a billion dollars, and its revenue right now is very close to a flatline.
