Commissioner Cautions Cops
posted (April 21, 2020)
And police officers are not only failing to lead by example when it comes to the curfew, but a number of them are also guilty of a spate of recent abuses against the public.

Back in March AG Michael Peyrefitte made an appearance on Ask The Experts in which he said quote: "The police no weh have no sense." and it's proven true, because despite directives not to use the State of Emergency as a means to abuse or take advantage of citizens certain officers have done just that.

And in a memo, today Commissioner of Police Chester Williams referenced the investigation surrounding the death of LGBTQ Belizean Ulysses Roca by chastising officers for increases in the use of cellphones to quote: "humiliate and bully the most vulnerable in our population."

The Commissioner also reminded his Commanders that blindness to indiscipline is a quote: " Tantamount to an endorsement of such behavior."

He also declared that officers with an affinity for the abuse and humiliation of citizens, but especially marginalized ones, must be identified and rooted out from the police force in an effort to restore public trust and confidence.
