posted (April 22, 2020)

And so what about C-SEC and CAPE examinations - is the ministry also ignoring those assessments?

Well, the fact is that with the entire region more or less on lockdown, the Caribbean Examinations Council has not yet settled on a tight testing timeline, and right now Deputy Smith says it’s wait and see:

"Is the MOE saying that no matter what strategy CXC gives, Belize will not participate in those examinations for this academic year."

Cecilia Smith - Deputy Chief Education Officer, MOE
"I don't know that the Ministry has said that. I believe what the Ministry has said is that, this regional body that administers this exam is in the process of finalizing what its plans are. We are not going to participate in the CXC as they were expected to be administered which is now because under the old normal, we would be having CXC exams now, it starts April, May, June and clearly we can't do that, so that were are not participating in but we are going to participate in whatever the final decision turns out to be."
