Agriculture CEO Will Quit
posted (April 23, 2020)

As we’ve been reporting, Belize's cattle and livestock industry is in a crisis - because the informal crossing through Bullett Tree is closed off - and cattle is not going over to Guatemala.  Farmers are desperate and stand to lose animals, and could lose their farms and livelihoods.

It’s a crisis which government just can’t solve - and now the most senior man in the Ministry of Agriculture is walking away - sources say in frustration.

The CEO in the Ministry, Jose Alpuche today confirmed that he has given the required 3 months notice of his resignation.  But, he did not allude to what may have prompted this, only saying via text that he will continue to work hard and to inspire his team to work hard for the next 90 days.

We hope to speak with his Minister, Godwin Hulse about this abrupt departure in the coming days.

We note that Alpuche had also resigned in 2013, but ended up staying on after ministerial adjustments were made.
