BEL’s COVID Friendly Cashier Booths
posted (April 28, 2020)
Last week we showed you how the South Korean inspired testing booths have become a major part of Belize's pandemic defense strategy.

But is the same level of precaution necessary for paying your light bill? BEL certainly thinks so. The company has installed three booths in an effort to re-position cashier services for a more open-air, socially distanced, and sunlit COVID era billing environment.

Customer care Manager Lisa Stanford told us that the company is focusing on quick, safe transactions.

Lisa Stanford, Customer Care Manager, BEL
"The reason why we have now the cashiering services outside. It's new innovative ways to combat COVID virus while maintaining our services to our customers outside allowing for much more social distancing rather than being in that office. It allows for as you can see the six feet between. We also have our sanitizing areas and we have chairs for our golden citizens to sit and it's much more spacious and safe for everybody. The employees and the customers coming in to do business here today."

"The feeling I'd like them to have is that it's safe. We've put in so many measures for both the staff and the customer to be safe in this time you could never be too cautious. We have to make sure that every customer that comes in to do businesses has on a face mask if you don't have one when you're here we will have to supply one for you. We have the sanitization where they could make sure that they sanitize their hands before they even conduct business with our staff. For our staff as i mentioned each person has their own A.C. in their area so it's not circulating, they also have on masks and gloves and also they have hand sanitizers in there for them to use whenever necessary. Being outside in the heat and direct sunlight also makes for the virus to not be in the area for a long time."

Cherisse Halsall:
"So, why the booths, I assume they're similar to the hospital ones?"

Lisa Stanford, Customer Care Manager, BEL
"They are similar but these are made specifically for cashiers they each have their own A.C. They all ventilated they have the setup for the cashiering and everything. It's comfortable; it allows for comfort both for the staff and also for the customer coming in. They could do the transaction fairly quickly and also very safely."

Cherisse Halsall:
"We know that no one was disconnected in the month of April does that change now that things are starting to roll again."

Lisa Stanford, Customer Care Manager, BEL
"Well, it really depends on what happens at the end of April in terms of right now we have people making decisions with the S.I. and all of that so we will also be taking the necessary precautions to make sure that we, you know, keep our customers happy as well. It's a gesture that we did that we see the need for. So if that continues then we will just have to you know let the customers know what happens at that point."

BEL booths are not built to be medical grade and so they are outfitted with air conditioners.
