The Radio Rules
posted (April 29, 2020)
Last night, we showed you how the Senate passed a motion to extend the State of Emergency for two more months.

New relaxed regulations will be announced tomorrow, but it will likely NOT include opening schools. And there is no clear indication just yet when it will be deemed safe to resume classes.

To try and look after the nation's students in these challenging times, the Ministry of Education has come up with a number of different distance learning initiatives. Those include lesson broadcasts on national radio, online courses, and printed lesson plans, being distributed at major supermarkets and grocery stores countrywide.

This morning, during the Government Press Office's Ask the Experts Webcast, 2 senior Education Ministry Representatives discussed these initiatives. Here's what the Deputy Chief Education Officer had to say about how students can continue their education over the next few weeks:

Dr. Neulin Villanueva - Deputy Chief Education Officer, MOE
"In response to the school closure, and to ensure that students continue to learn, we've come up with several strategies. First of all, at the pre-school and primary level, we have 3 different activities going on. First of all, for those families - students, parents - that have access to the internet, we have daily lessons posted on the ministry's website at www.moe.gov.bz. And there are 3 types of activities posted there. There are some activities that are print-based. So, you can print have the student complete the activity sheet. There are some that are more interactive and online, and we also have posted our radio lessons. And the radio lessons are the second type of activities that we've put together. These radio lessons are being aired on a number of radio stations including Wave FM, Reef Radio, Sugar City, Rainbow FM, Toledo Christian, Christian Faith Ministries, Maximum Radio, and also on Love FM, Fiesta Radio, and Krem. We've been posting up the times for those particular radio broadcasts. For most of the radio stations, they're doing 4 different sessions. So, there's a pre-school and infant 1 and 2 45-minute lesson. Then, there's one for Standard 1 and Standard 2, which usually follows immediately, and then Standard 3 and 4, and Standard 5 and 6. So, there are 4 time-slots. Right now, on Love FM, we have the first 2 groups. So, the pre-school, Infant 1 and Infant 2, and Standard 1 and Standard 2. But, we're working on communicating, discussing with Love FM, to see how we could get the other slots filled. So, to go along with the radio broadcasts, we've printed some lessons for Pre-school up to Standard 6. And those are being distributed this week. They will be placed mostly in prime grocery stores across the country, and as soon as we finalize that list, we'll be advertising the specific locations that you can find those resources. So, that's for the primary. You have the online website, the radio broadcasts, and you also have the print material."
