posted (May 4, 2020)
26-year-old BDF soldier Pristley Rancharan was killed on Friday in a road traffic accident that left 8 of his passengers and fellow soldiers injured.

It happened just before 5:00 pm between miles 4 and 5 on the Consejo Road. All 9 soldiers were travelling in a government-owned D-Max Pickup which had been loaned to the BDF.

Rancharan was driving en route to Corozal Town from Consejo village when he lost control of the vehicle. ACP Joseph Myvette provided further details earlier today.

ACP Joseph Myvett
"On Friday, sometime around 4:30 p.m., Corozal police were called to the scene of an accident on the Consejo Road in Corozal District whereupon arrival they saw a gold in color D-Max pickup with government license plate extensively damaged and on its side. What the police know so far is that the vehicle at the time was being driven by one Priestly Rancharan, a twenty-seven-year-old B.D.F. soldier, and he was accompanied at the time by eight other persons and they were westbound coming from the direction of Consejo Village when he apparently lost control of the vehicle after just coming off a curve and causing the vehicle to overturn several times. Several of the other passengers received varying degrees of injuries; however, none of the other injuries seemed to have been that serious as his injuries being that he was not on the scene on the arrival of the police. He was already at the Corozal Community Hospital receiving treatment where he succumbed to his injuries whilst undergoing treatment. Another vehicle occupied by BDF personnel which was coming not too far behind came upon the accident and Mr. Rancharan who was the most critically injured, he was the one that was transported to the Corozal Community Hospital whilst the others remained on scene."
