Keeping Albert Street On A Tight Leash
posted (May 4, 2020)
For those businesses that will be allowed to re-open, the Government and the police department will be strict with them about the enforcement of social distancing best-practices.

That's what the Attorney General said while he was answering a question about the classification of daycares. He said that if business owners cannot maintain social distancing protocols, it is best that they keep their businesses closed because they will face harsh consequences.

Here is the AG making the point that Downtown Belize City will be under the police microscope:

Dorian Pakeman - Director, Government Press Office
"You said businesses remain open, with the exception of those that you listed. So, where do daycares fall in all of that?"

Hon. Michael Peyrefitte - Attorney General
"Well, daycares fall [under] 8 to 7. But, remember, if you have daycare business, those children must always be 6 feet apart."

Dorian Pakeman
"And wearing masks?"

Hon. Michael Peyrefitte
"And wearing masks, even in the daycare. If you can't do that, then you can't open it. If you do that, and you're open, and you're violating the social distance protocols, you will be charged. We will be closely monitoring, quite frankly the whole Orange Street/Albert Street stores that are so close together, and attract a lot of people. Each one of those store owners has a responsibility to ensure that their employees are wearing masks, that the only amount of people allowed in the store are those people for which they can provide good social distancing. The lines outside, the people must be lined up 6 feet from each other. If these stores violate the social distancing protocols, they will be shut down and charged. It's as simple as that."
