Stranded On a Ship, No Direction Home
posted (May 5, 2020)
Belizeans in far flung corners of the world continue to wait for a signal that Belize's borders may be opened, just a little - to let them back into their home country.

Foremost among those are scores of students, whose courses of study, scholarship funds, or visas may be coming to an end, and they've got nowhere to go, no direction home. We've heard from students in Cuba, the UK, India, and the US, who are stuck in their country of study, with no active prospect for repatriation.

And while students are one thing, an overlooked group in all this are the few dozen Belizeans who work on the major cruise lines: Carnival, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. They aren't stuck in another country, they're stuck on cruise ships - and haven't even been able to touch land for the past two months!

They're waiting for an avenue or opportunity to get home - and Keran Rocke, aboard the Norwegian Epic in the Port of Miami told us what it's like:

Rocke does have a US visa, but the Centers for Disease Control is not letting them off the ship. As we noted, he is joined by dozens of other Belizeans stuck on other ships including Linda Blease, DJ Jago, Lindy D, and others. We'll keep following their story.
