DHS: Zero Cases, But Not Off the Hook
posted (May 6, 2020)
As we told you last night - Belize currently has no active cases of COVID 19, after the last two patients were confirmed to have recovered in test results released yesterday.

It's reason to quietly rejoice, for sure, but, today, the Director of Health Services said it is no time to let up on your health and safety practices, because this could be just the first wave. We spoke to him via zoom teleconference this evening:

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, DHS
"We are Covid-19 free. I don't know that relaxation is the word. I would hope that we can appreciate that we don't have any case and that we will ensure that we have learnt our lesson and that the prevention measures that we have been heralding such as the physical distancing, the hand washing, the proper respiratory etiquette - that we would have learnt our lesson in that regard, so if we are ever going to have some level of normal routines as we had before, those new measures need to be inserted very well into our new routines. This might be one outbreak; a wave and this might be the first one of what we anticipate will be more cases for sure this year. We are not living in a bubble. We can anticipate that we are going to have further waves throughout 2020."
