Big Fines For SOE Violations

On Monday, we told you about the 62 people that police charged countrywide for breaking the State of Emergency regulations during the Labour Day Holiday weekend. Well, on Monday and Tuesday, 15 of those accused people were arraigned before the Belize City Magistrate's Court.

On Monday, the cops escorted the senior citizen, Shanton Gillett, before the Chief Magistrate for breaching the curfew. He quickly pleaded guilty and was fined $2,500. He must pay his fine by July 31st, 2020, or he will have to spend 1 year in jail in default.

Michael Gillett was arraigned on the offense of failing to wear a mask.

Gregory Myvette was accused of breaching the curfew, and during his arraignment, he pleaded guilty. Myvette was fined $2,000, which must be paid by July 31st, 2020, or he will have to spend 1 year in prison in default.

Justin Goff was arraigned for being unable to provide a reasonable explanation for movement outside of the curfew. He pleaded not guilty, and he was released on bail of $500. He must return to court on July 7th, 2020.

Rodel Williams was arraigned for breaching the curfew. He also pleaded not guilty, and he has been released on $1,000 bail. He is due back in court on July 31st, 2020.

Derrick Bain was arraigned for breaching the curfew, and after conceding guilt, he was sentenced to pay a fine of $2,500 by July 31st, 2020. If he defaults on payment, he will be imprisoned for 1 year.

Oscar Cruz was also charged with failing to wear a mask. He claimed that he forgot his mask at home, and for that error, he must now pay a fine of $2,500. He has until July 31st, to do so, and if he defaults on payment, he will spend 1 year in prison.
