Cops Smoking Out Cigarette Smugglers

And there are also threats out west - where the cigarette hustle is in full swing.  Yesterday at 12:30, police were monitoring a back road called Trek Stop Road, used by criminals to avoid the check point at the entrance to Succotz village.  They intercepted a 2008 Ford Explorer driven by a businessman from Santa Elena Town. 

A search inside the vehicle revealed 6 cases with 300 cartons of Maxwell Brand Cigarettes. Police handed him over to customs.

Later that day, police were conducting surveillance Behind the Benque Viejo Free Zone Fence when two Hispanic males were seen running through the bushes with two boxes each on their backs. 

Police tried to chase them down but they got away. The ditched the packages which were 4 cases or 200 cartons of Maxwell Brand Cigarettes - which was also handed over to customs.
