Nurses Week Finds Nurses Strong
posted (May 7, 2020)

Nurses week has started and the Ministry of Health has circulated an infographic which provides some interesting figures on the medical practitioners who are called the “backbone of the health system.â€￾

First off, there are 897 nursing personnel, including 593 nursing professionals and 304 nursing associates.

95% of nurses are women while 5% are men, and most nurses, more than half, are between the ages of 35 and 54.

Notably, one-quarter of nurses are foreign born, while close to a quarter a foreign trained.

And the projection is that in 2030, Belize will have a shortage of 100 to 200 nurses based on the projected population growth rate.
