Rt. Hon. Musa Recovering After Slight Stroke
posted (May 8, 2020)
Tonight, former two-term Prime Minister, Said Musa, is at the Belize Medical Associates Hospital recovering from what a family statement calls "a mild stroke."

He was admitted last night with symptoms of a stroke and has since received emergency treatment. According to his family, he is alert and stable but will remain in the hospital for the next few days.

During his press conference this morning, Prime Minister Dean Barrow sent best wishes for his parliamentary colleague:

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow - Prime Minister
"Allow me the opportunity to express my best wishes for a speedy recovery for the Right Honourable Said Musa, the ex-Prime Minister of Belize. I understand that he was last night admitted to hospital having suffered what was described as a mild stroke. I'm sure that I join all other Belizeans in wishing him a speedy and completed recovery."

His son Kareem told us this evening that the elder Musa remains stable and alert this evening.

A press release from the UDP says, quote, "We pray for God's continued guidance of the medical professionals who are currently monitoring the former Prime Minister's condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones who are his source of strength and comfort during this time." End quote.

Musa's party, the PUP, also sent out a release saying, quote, "We extend our wishes for a full recovery and join his family, as they stand vigil with a Leader, Statesman, and Politician who has spent his life in service of his people and country." End quote.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only his immediate family members will be able to visit him in the hospital.

The 76-year-old Musa has served the PUP as the Area Representative for the Fort George constituency in Belize City for 8 terms, winning his first election in 1979.

We will keep following his progress.
