Even at Day 28, Not COVID Free
posted (May 8, 2020)
And while Manzanero is being extra-cautious, it may come from his ardent desire to get to that 28th day. As we've told you - if there are no new cases - Monday will mark the end of Belize's first wave of COVID-19. Still, the DHS cautions against declaring the country COVID-19 free. Here's what he had to say about expected subsequent waves:

Dr. Marvin Manzanero - Director of Health Services
"If we go through this weekend and Monday we are back here and we don't identify any case, again, we are going to be doing testing tomorrow and Monday - we would have gone through a full 28 day cycle, which means we have gone through 2 incubation periods of SARS Covid2 for us to be able to say that it doesn't seem we have any active ongoing transmission in Belize. We won't say we are Covid-19 free, we would say that we have gone through our first wave and we will more than likely be having further waves as we move along for sure, because you will note what's happening all around us, so it's all going to be a question of it but when we get a second or a third wave and hoping that whatever has happened has allowed us to adequately prepare and complete our preparation process for Covid-19."
