Mother Wants Answers For One Year Old’s Foot Infection
posted (May 11, 2020)
One-year-old Skyla Bodden has had much more than a rough two weeks. On March 30th she broke her leg leaning over a railing, but the toddler's troubles really began at the KHMH. Her mother says that while they were there, hospital staff used bandages to bind the toddler's foot to a bed in an attempt to keep her leg straight.

But the bandages had an adverse effect and by checkout time the flesh on Skyla's foot was raw and infected. Here's how Skyla's mother describes the ordeal that she and her child have been put through.

Carlotta Bodden, Skyla's Mom
"She, it was three stairs and she leaned over, and I hailed, while she leaned over she dropped so I was surprised how she broke her foot. So that same day it was on a Sunday we went to Karl Heusner. It was the 30th of March when my baby and I went to Karl Heusner, I told them something was wrong with my baby, they took long before they did an X-ray on her. When they did an X-ray they found out that her foot was broken so they sent us to a nurse to test her pressure and to see if it was okay then after that we went to two Chinese doctors. They put a contraption on her foot. It was to make the bone come back together."

"We went to the pediatric ward while *ROBERT* was the bone specialist. So they still had the contraption so in like three days they came and checked it but her foot was still moving. *ROBERT* wanted her foot to stay straight. So he assigned *PADDISON* to tie a bandage around her foot to the bed, and he did. She was trying to tell me but I didn't understand because she couldn't talk. So she took this foot and she did like this, knocking this to the bed, so I said something is wrong. I told *ROBERT, ROBERT* did like this to her, oh her foot is okay. When he took off the bandage this is what occurred. The whole thing was black and blue all around the foot and he said to me that he didn't say anything he just walked out then the nurse came back and told me that the foot would be okay. I said but this whole thing is swollen."

"While I explained to them nobody wants to believe that the hospital did this. The hospital did this to my baby all I'm asking for his help."

"She stayed up and cried, for three nights she cried straight, she started kicking up so I said something was wrong. One night I rubbed my hands under her feet. The toe was hard, hard, hard. When I told the nurse she asked how I knew that I said because you can feel the actual feelings from when the toe is swollen."

"All I'm asking for is for the hospital to at least give me and explanation. Why they made this happen."

"They weren't seeking much attention to the little girl to make this actually happen and you shouldn't tie a baby's foot down to a bed. All I want them to do is to give me a good explanation as to why this occurred."

"I'm not asking them for any money because they'll say they don't have it all I want is for them to give a good explanation for this."

We tried to reach the KHMH for a comment, but got no response. Bodden has sought the advice of the Ombudsman.
