Fire Guts Hattieville Home
posted (May 11, 2020)
Belizeans continue to face the financial hardship that the COVID-19 pandemic has inflicted on the global economy. One citizen who has it worse during these difficult times is 29-year-old Dorian Garnett. He's a resident of the windmill area of Hattieville Village, and he has told police that someone lit his house on fire and completely destroyed it

On Saturday night, his wooden home burnt down. Firefighters could only contain the blaze and put it out - he was unable to save anything.

This afternoon, we found Garnett clearing away the remaining debris from the blaze, and he granted us an interview about the distress he is currently in:

We note that there is a difference between his account to us, and the police's report on the incident. Police's account is that he and another person were in an argument inside the house. That person reportedly lit the house on fire. You just heard his on-camera account to us, in which he said that he was away in Mahogany Heights when he was called about the fire.

If you would like to offer him some help to recover from this extreme hardship, you can reach his family on the telephone number, 666-2752.
