Mourning Fuego
posted (May 12, 2020)
In late April we brought you the story of Fuego the Kinkajou, a victim of the western fires, being nursed back to health by the Belize Wildlife Referral Clinic.

Tonight we have the unfortunate task of informing you of his passing. Fuego had been electrocuted while attempting to escape his rescuers and while his burns had all but healed, the electrocution burns severely compromised him. He later developed pneumonia and despite the best efforts of his veterinarians did not pull through.

The clinic made the announcement yesterday via Facebook saying quote: "We are heartbroken and sorry to share this sad news but this is unfortunately a common reality in this field. We can't save them all. But the saddest cases are those that we start hoping to soon return. Try is all we can and we are comforted to know that he was under pain meds, safe from predators and had a good week's worth of good food (he didn't lose his appetite) before he went to hopefully Rest in Peace." End quote.
