Mennonite Businessmen Can Come Home
posted (May 14, 2020)
So, what about those mennonite businessmen form Shipyard who we told you about last night. They were in the jungles of Peru on business when Belize's borders were closed. By the time they scrambled back to Mexico - there was no way to get in the country. Now, they've been in Chetumal for about 6 weeks trying desperately to get back home. Their community says one of the 7 men, Juan Martinez is their leader - and they need him back in Shipyard. Plus, the group is running out of money in Chetumal. Well, the PM says they should start packing their bags:

Jules Vasquez- Reporter
"The Mennonites from shipyard who are in Chetumal for some time now, over a month I believe. I would expect that you are apprised of this case. I know they have written to the Attorney General. Just using that as an example, they are in a holding pattern in Chetumal for, I believe, six weeks. And they, I believe, would like to come back. Would they be immediately allowed to come back as soon as quarantine arrangements can be worked out?"

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow- Prime Minister
"The SI goes into effect on Friday. They, as far as I am concerned, could come that same Friday or the following day so they can, I believe and hope, pay for quarantine facilities as close to where they actually reside as possible. Subject to that, I repeat, there is in my mind no reason why they cannot be let in as soon as the arrangements can be made to screen them at the border, to escort them to the quarantine facilities, as soon as those arrangements can be put in place, which cannot take longer than a day or so."
