Festival Goes Virtual
posted (May 14, 2020)
For about 15 years on 7news, at this time of year, we have been ending the news with the many hundreds of faces of performers from the Children's Festival of the Arts.

But this year the festival of arts as we've come to know it has been deemed too hazardous to go ahead. Adults might say it's just one more loss to COVID-19. But for kids, the importance of the festival cannot be underestimated; it's found in the roar of the crowd, the bright transformative costumes, and the rush of stepping onto the stage.

And while those thrills are impossible to duplicate, the kids will now have to be happy with the likes and shares, because the Festival is going virtual.

Kim Vasquez is still at the helm of the now web-based festival. She told us how COVID-time regulations have altered the Festival of Arts and explained why this year's performances are more accessible than ever.

The Festival of the Arts commenced on May 9th via the Institute of Creative Arts Facebook page and continues all month long.
