Our other neighbor, Mexico also spiked yesterday, reporting its own new record for new coronavirus cases in a single day, 2,409. That brings their national total to 42,595 positive cases with 4,477 deaths - the greatest number - more than eleven thousand - concentrated in the densely populated Mexico City.
The total for Chetumal remains relatively low with only 37 cases and 6 deaths, while Cancun has 929 cases with 181 deaths.
And while all this plays out around us, Belize is like an ice cube surrounded by walls of fire.
Last night's latest update shows no new cases for 32 days now. 1274 tests have been done, and 19 persons remain under investigation. That means those 19 have been swabbed and are waiting on test results. We expect this includes various persons who have been border jumping in the south, the north and the west.
