Bridging The Digital Divide With Printouts?
posted (May 15, 2020)
And while everybody's talking about re-starting tourism, no one is talking seriously about re-opening school.

When we spoke to the minister earlier this week about access to learning for the most needy children, he said that the Ministry's printable education material was in its second edition of printout and circulation.

Hon. Patrick Faber, Minister of Education
"Major part of the problem is right now we have to be getting the physical newsprints out to our students across the country. By the way, a new edition of those prints are now out. 30,000 copies are being distributed as we speak to the rest of the country and this is the second edition. We had a full edition 36 pages print for pre and primary and secondary that has been distributed and went all over the country. The ministry's website has original content created by our teachers at the various different levels. Secondary schools are doing their thing as well, but we also have the newsprint to back that up. So this is already a very real thing, but when we white wash certain sites this means that wherever they can get a phone signal, you don't need credit. If you have a phone which most people, you don't really need a computer device, you don't need a tablet or a laptop, you have access to get that information if the sites that have the information the materials for learning are zero rated or white wash as they call it, then it is there for them to utilize."

Now those materials will have to suffice to keep primary and secondary students up to scratch with what should have been their 2020 academic goals. Though Faber has said that the 2020 academic year is not yet officially scrapped.
