A Police Constable is claiming to be a victim of police brutality. On Saturday night, Mark Rodriguez says he was on his way to pick up his wife after her shift at the Belmopan Hospital when he claims police beat him up at the behest of a senior ASP Aaron Gamboa.
Gamboa though, has a very different take on the situation: he says he pulled Rodriguez over after reports that the PC was drunk and driving recklessly after the curfew hour. We spoke to both men today and got two distinct accounts on the events that lead to an arrest, 6 charges, and a possible discharge for PC Rodriguez.
Still, the Rodriguez-Zelaya Family claims Gamboa's arrest of Rodriguez was less protocol and more personal. They claim that at the heart of the matter lies a land dispute that's been brewing between Gamboa and Rodriguez's common-law wife.
The Commissioner of police declined comment today.
