Stranded Mennonites Were Among First To Come Home
posted (May 20, 2020)
But the first to come home and test the system are those shipyard mennonites we told you about.

As we told you a week ago, those 7 men including community leader, Juan Martinez had traveled to Peru to survey a land purchase and were deep in the Peruvian jungle when borders started to close.

And while they left South America in time they got stuck right next door in Mexico - where they were stranded, fast running out of money, and options.

Well, the CEO confirmed that they were among the first across when the borders opened last week Friday:

Dorian Pakeman
"With regards to the Shipyard Mennonites who were stuck in Chetumal via Peru, what is the status on them?"

H. E. Ambassador Lou-Anne Burns Martinez- CEO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
"A few of the hotels up north were early test cases for quarantine. So then, that was where we had quarantine done first in Belize in terms of those hotels. Because of the experience they had, that group has been allowed to return and is in quarantine now and that is serving us as a reentry process but also there have been a few other people with chronic conditions who have been allowed as well."
