And from that platform, FECTAB's new president kept up the public pressure against Ashcroft's proposal for a multi-million dollar upgrade of the Port. As we told you, his company, Waterloo, wants to improve the Port's shipping facilities, but there is the contemplation of a mega Cruise Port being added to the Port of Belize.
You'll remember that FECTAB took offence because according to them, the Waterloo group hasn't consulted them as major stakeholders in the industry. Today, Almendarez said that Belizeans ought not to forget that past Ashcroft-related business deals with the Government have not ended well for the country:

As many other failed Ashcroft projects that has caused the people of Belize to be indebted to the tune of almost a billion dollars. "We have gotten phone calls all the way from San Pedro, PG, Corozal - what is going on that we see on the news of a new port. A new port is supposed to be a good news for our country, because everything new brings business, cash and prosperity to any city, any country, any man. but it's how you go about doing it. How the port of Belize is creating a Waterloo Cruise Port without notifying any of the shareholders and we are not a "poco tiempo" shareholder. Yhony Rosado have not been here for the past year, for the past month - we 've been out there from the beginning over 20 years now. We hear many times on the radio shows in the morning that Belizean have the fault, because they don't want to stand up and fight. Well Yhony Rosado is doing his job, my kids, my neighbors, my friends cannot say that Belizeans are not standing up for the right and for the fight. All we are doing here this morning is letting our country know be careful sitting down 
and doing business with Mr. Ashcroft, because we have learn from the past deal we always loose. The government does not loose, the PUP and UDP does not loose, it's the people of this country that are losing. The next time they cut your water or light bill remember the bad deals that our government have done with people like Ashcroft."
