Mexican Border Hopper In Custody
posted (May 22, 2020)
And two days ago, when police were on patrol in that same Santa Cruz - they came across a Mexican who had hopped the border and come into Belize. He was put into quarantine and today the Commissioner told the press his fate is in the hands of the court.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"The Mexican is in quarantine in Corozal at the ITVET building; those that were captured yesterday are also in the quarantine center. Once the quarantine period is over which is 21 days they'll be charged and taken before the court and then the court is going to decide what will happen to those persons."

Cherisse Halsall:
"Condone that for such a long time."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"As what was said by the previous reporter for some people this is their livelihood and when a person is going to fend for their livelihood they are going to do what it takes and it is not that law enforcement have condoned it because we all know that customs and police, BDF joint patrols have been in this area. We have ran many operations in this area all with a view from preventing these things from happening but as with everything else there is never a full proof there is nothing that we can do to stop it totally but we can surely do a lot to contain it and that is what we're trying to do."
